Our range of ATEX and stainless steel food extraction arms are designed specifically for food and drinks production. The safe removal of dust, and dried powders is essential when complying with hygiene requirements, especially in bakeries, on food production lines and during the processing of food.
When flour, spices, and sugar can all present an explosive risk in the workplace, it's essential to extract them beforehand. This way you're preventing any potential ignition sources from happening during the processing or manufacturing of food.
Many industries deal with powders and dust on a daily basis, from pharmaceutical manufacturing to food processing. While sugar, dried milk, flour, and grains are essential for many aspects of food production, they can also pose a serious health hazard if not properly contained. Inhaling dust particles from a food manufacturing process can lead to a number of respiratory problems, including asthma and chronic bronchitis. To protect workers from this danger, many companies use food-grade extraction arms. These devices are designed to capture dust particles and contaminants before they have a chance to enter the breathing environment of the worker.
ATEX and stainless steel Food grade LEV arms typically consist of a flexible hose that is connected to a powerful vacuum system. The hose is positioned near the source of the dust via an extraction hood, and the vacuum system extracts the particles into the ducting system where they are safely captured. By using food-grade extraction arms, companies can provide a safe working environment for their employees while still maintaining a constant flow of production.
When ingredients like flour, dried milk, coffee, starch, sugar, and species are used in food production, there's always a risk of dust being created. These types of contaminants, once airborne, pose a serious risk to the health of food production operatives.
One of the most effective ways to control dust and other food-based contaminants is through the use of an LEV (local exhaust ventilation) system. LEV systems work by capturing dust and other particles at the source before they have a chance to spread through the air. There are many different types of LEV systems available on the market, but not all of them are suitable for use in the food industry.
It is also important to choose a dust extraction system that is specifically designed for use in a food production environment, as processes like flour milling, spray drying of milk and the grinding of sugar can all cause an explosion hazard if the dust is not correctly extracted.
Is Flour, Starch Dust, Sugar, and Custard Powder Explosive?
A number of different foods are produced using ingredients that can cause explosions; these include materials like flour, custard powder, or instant coffee. Finely ground sugar and dried milk can also become explosive from something as simple as a static discharge, so the LEV extraction arm and hood need to be ATEX certified to not cause any buildup of static when extracting food dust.
Both telescopic and flexible articulated extraction arms can be positioned on production lines and in food production working environments so that the hood is as close as possible to the source of contaminants before they get a chance to circulate and disperse into the working environment. As the extraction hoods are interchangeable, you can choose a specific hood type and size depending on the particular activity being conducted. These are also easily detachable for maintenance and cleaning.
ATEX-compliant anti-static materials used for our food-grade extraction arms reduce the risk of fires and explosions; this is especially important when considering the potential for flour dust being created within bakeries. Certain food types can also be corrosive, so the use of 316 stainless steel means our food-grade extraction arms are resistant to acidic food types. The noise levels of extraction arms can also be lower than more traditional larger LEV dust extraction solutions.
